COMPUTER SOFTWARE

Computer Software are those invisible parts of the system. They are programs which control the daily operation of the Computer.

Major parts of the Software are:

• Operating Software
• Application Software
• Utility Soft ware

Operating Software is the basic programme installed into the Computer by the manufacturer which makes it common.

Types of Operating Software are
LINUX
UNIX
Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista etc.
Microsoft Disk Operating Software

Application Software are the programs we buy and install into the system to meet our day to day needs. e.g. are
Data processing software - Microsoft Word, Note Pad, Word Pad
Data base Management Software - Excel, Access, etc
Publisher Software: Corel Draw, Publisher, etc
And so on...

Utility Software are the drivers that come with some of our hardware to enable them work effectively with the Computer. Utility software come in CD form and can also be downloaded from the internet.
Some hardware cannot work with the computer by just cable connection, it has to be installed.

Note that all software come in either CD forms or can be downloaded from the internet.

Care of the Computer

• Do not operate the computer near a heat source
• Do not pour liquid on computer
• Protect it from dust by covering after use.
• Always have a cooling device near your system while operating it.
• Do not bang the computer.
• Do not repair the computer if it develop faults, unless you are a trained or certified engineer.
